When life stresses you out…MEDITATE

Meditation has changed my life. I know many people say that, but it is true.

Before meditation, I was extremely anxious.

Afterwards I learned where to put my roiling emotions and how to calm down.

There is something about sitting in total silence for several minutes. It does something to you. It taught me patience (and I am the most impatient person in the world!)

If you or a loved one are feeling too much stress, here are some resources to help you out.

The Insight Meditation Community of Washington DC. They are good people who I have worked with myself. If you are NOT in Washington DC, contact them anyway as I’m sure they could help you find a community in your area.

Spirit Rock, an insight meditation center in Marin County California. Jack Kornfeld is still giving his famous Monday Night Dharma talks. I really like Jack because he is very down-to-earth and sensible, but also imparts great wisdom. AND they have online courses!

If Insight Meditation is just too austere for you, then try TM (Transcendental Meditation) which also provides ONLINE COURSES!

Lastly, if sitting just isn’t for you, find a yoga community near you.

The best place to start is by perusing the pages of the Yoga Journal. Yoga practice also helps with meditation, and any good yoga instructor will teach you how to breathe properly.
