In the Fall of 2015, I went on a two-week holiday of Andalusia, that province of southern Spain that encompasses Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada. I went with the Ramblers association, which is famous in Britain for its walking holidays. And so this was not your typical package tour holiday which just takes you to those three cities.
No.
We walked around the countryside. We visited Roman ruins. We engaged with the spectacular mountainous countryside. And near the end of the tour, I walked along a wooden bridge held up by rope, that swung above a boiling gorge (and had a few planks missing). And then I edged a long a rocky ledge, my back to the roiling waters behind me, my back-pack stuck out above them, doing a sideways shuffle.
That would not be to everyone’s taste I know. But I thought it was wonderful, You see, I suffered from crippling anxiety as a child. So the fact that I could do all that without blenching was a sign that I was getting better!
I took this holiday in October, when the weather was perfect. And last year, I visited Andalusia in early April, enjoying the spring weather too. Speaking for myself, I tend to avoid the summer months as I don’t enjoy the heat, or crowds of tourists.
