“I was gifted an ebook copy of Maiden Tomb by Cynthia Sally Haggard and this story completely surprised me in the best way possible! From the get go, the story had me hooked and I just couldn’t put it down. I hadn’t even realized it was a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses until about half way through, it was just that good.
This isn’t what you would expect from a typical fairy tale retelling. Haggard’s version makes this story darker and deeper, a version I find I most enjoy. The twelve sisters are all flawed and deeply fascinating people, each one carrying their own curse, and the bond between them stood out to me. Justice is fiercely loyal and willing to sacrifice everything for her sisters, which I absolutely love. Even though she is not the eldest of her siblings, I can still resonate with her as if she was such! And Lord Nobody? I absolutely adored him. His internal struggle added so much emotional depth, he was a breath of fresh air in my opinion.
With secrets, reluctant alliances, and duty colliding with desire, this retelling keeps you on your toes throughout. It’s dark, emotional and will continue to linger long after you finish it. ~ Highly recommend!” ~ @jridsreads Instagram
