Cynthia Sally Haggard

Review of MAIDEN TOMB by Ava Williams on Instagram

I recently read “Maiden Tomb” by Cynthia Sally Haggard, and it honestly felt like stepping into a dark, myth-rich dream 🌙📚✨

What immediately drew me in was the way the story reimagines the “Twelve Dancing Princesses” tale, but transforms it into something much deeper, darker, and more symbolic. Instead of a light fairytale, it becomes a haunting exploration of captivity, fate, and even death.

Justice, the main character, really stood out to me. I felt her quiet strength and pressure as she tries to save her sisters, each of whom feels like their own strange, mythic presence. The descriptions of her sisters—each with their own unsettling traits—gave the story such an eerie and unforgettable atmosphere 🐍🌑

I also loved how layered the book is with mythology. The references to Greek myth, Gilgamesh, and ancient symbolism made everything feel ancient and timeless, almost like history and legend blending together.

The tone is definitely more reflective and symbolic than fast-paced, but that’s what makes it so unique.

Overall, it’s a haunting, thoughtful, and deeply mythological retelling that stays in your mind long after finishing 💫📖 ~ Ava Williams Instagram
