I finally arrived home near the beginning of June. After giving myself a week to deal with the heap of mail that inevitably accompanied my return, I’m now back to my regular social media posting. And I thought the best way to begin was to give you all a brief summary, before going into detail.
This year, I went on Odysseys Unlimited tour of Northern Italy and Switzerland. It was a new trip for this company, and I and my tour-mates were the Guinea Pigs!
We started in the Italian Lake District on the shores of Lake Lugano. After exploring the pretty town of Lugano with its charming park, we headed north, driving along the shores of Lake Como until we got to the town of Tirano, where we picked up the Bernina Express to go up to St Mortiz.
This was one of the biggest surprises of the trip. St Moritz is so famous for its winter sports and being the playground of the famous and rich. However, when we showed up in mid May it was extremely quiet. Apparently there was a long weekend going on while the Swiss celebrated Ascension Day (which occurred on Thursday 14 May this year.) There was nothing glamorous about it. Admittedly the weather was bad. It was cold, grey and snowing. But still, I was extremely surprised.
After that, we wended our way through Switzerland from East to West, finally ending on the shores of Lake Geneva.
Then I flew to England to spend time with my sister.
It was a wonderful trip.
I will tell you more about it in subsequent postings.
