Shortly after graduating from Lesley University in June 2015, my husband and I flew out to San Francisco to visit our extended family and friends.
I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Squaw Valley writers’ conference, held near Lake Tahoe. I say “invited” because this conference is very hard to get into. But my newly minted degree from Lesley probably helped.
Naturally, the faculty were luminaries in their own right. I was lucky enough to mingle with and take classes from the likes of Alan Cheuse, Janet Fitch, Alice Sebold and Elise Capron.
The only problem was the stunning landscape. For as many of you know, Squaw Valley (now renamed Olympic Valley) is a ski resort during winter, and a hiking magnet during summer. And then there is Lake Tahoe. Somehow I managed to find the time both to imbibe the wisdom of their wonderful faculty, and enjoy myself beside the shores of Lake Tahoe!
